Question

Answer

Oranges : Mangoes = u : 2u

total number of fruits = 3u

In the end, Oranges : Mangoes = (u + 12 ) : (2u – 12)

Total number of fruits = u + 12 + 2u – 12 = 3u

Given

(2u – 12) / 3u = 60% = 3/5                      multiply both sides by 15u

5( 2u – 12) = 9u

10u – 60 = 9u

u = 60

There were 60 oranges at first.

Check : 2u – 12 = 108

3u = 180

108/180 = 3/5 = 60%  Checked.
