(a) In the beginning, if the volume of water in  A is u cm³, the volume of water in B is 3u cm³

When 1200 cm³ was poured from A to B, volume of water in A decreased by 1200 cm³ and B increased by 1200 cm³

Given height of  water in B = 2* height of water in A

(3u + 1200 )/(3 * base area of A)  = 2 ( u – 1200)/( base area of A)             

Note : multiply both sides by base area of A removed this term from above equation.

u + 400 = 2u – 2400

u = 2800

3u = 8400

Volume of water in B was 8400 cm³

(b) Total volume of water = 4u = 11200 cm³

Base area of A = 11200/140 cm² = 80 cm²
