Working backwards:

  1. In the end, Eddie had 1260 litres of oil left.
  2. On Wednesday, he had that 1260 litres + 200 extra litres = 1460 litres after selling 1/2. So he had 1460 x 2/1 = 2920 litres at the beginning of Wednesday.
  3. On Tuesday, he had that 2920 litres + 340 extra litres = 3260 litres after selling 4/9. So that 3260 litres was 5/9 and he had 3260 x 9/5 = 5868 litres at the beginning of Tuesday.
  4. On Monday, he had that 5868 litres after selling 2/3, so 5868 litres was 1/3 of his starting amount. Therefore he had 5868 litres x 3/1 = 17604 litres to begin with.
