Question

Answer

(a) An orange cost $0.35 and an apple cost $0.35 + $ 0.15 = $0.50.

If  Mrs Lee bought u apples, she bought ( u – 10) oranges.

39 = 0.35 ( u – 10) + 0.5u

39 = 0.35u – 3.5 + 0.5u

0.85u = 42.5

u = 50

She bought 50 apples.

(b) She bought 40 oranges and paid $ 40 * 0.35 = $14 for the oranges.
