Question

Jason had a sum of money. He spent an equal amount of money each day . After 6 days, he had 3/5 of his money left. 3 days later , he had $360 left. What was the sum of money he had at first ?

Answer

If Jason spent $u everyday, after 6 days, he spent 6u and after 9 days , he spent 9u.

So he had 360 + 9u at first.

He spent 6u which is equal to 2/5 of his total money,

6u = 2/5 * ( 360 + 9u)

Multiply by 5 on both sides

30u = 720 + 18u

12u = 720

u = 60

360 + 9u = 900

He had $900 dollars at first.

I only know how to do this in algebra 🙁

Let M be the amount of money he had at first.
Let x be the amount of money he spent every day

6x = (2/5)M
9x = (9/6)(2/5)M =(9/15)M … (1)

M – 9x = 360 … (2)

Substituting (1) into (2):
M – (9/15)M = 360
(6/15)M = 360
M = (15/6)360 = $900 #
