Question

Hi again…need help with this question please. Thank you!

Answer

3/5  of  6A are girls and 1/2 or 3/6 of 6B are girls.

(i) First we make the numerator to be the same, so by comparing the denominator, 6B has  (6 – 5) = 1 unit more students which were 6 boys.

So there are 6 * 6 = 36 students in 6B

(ii) There are 6 * 5 = 30 students in 6A.

So in total there are 3/5 * 30 + 1/2 * 36 = 36 girls in the 2 classes.

And there are 30 + 36 – 36 = 30 boys in the 2 classes.

Total pupils who wear spectacles = 1/3 * 36 + 2/5 * 30 = 12 + 12 = 24
