Question

The ratio of the number of boys to the number of girls in Group A is 2:1. The ratio of the number of boys to the number of girls in Group B is 3:5. Group A has 3/5 as many students as Group B. Given that there are 2 more boys in Group A than in Group B, how many students are there in both groups in total?

Answer

If there were 40u students in group B, there were4ou * 3/5 = 24u students in group A.

Number of boy in group A = 24u *2/3 = 16u

Number of boys in group B = 40u * 3/(3+5) = 15u

16u – 15u = 2

u = 2

24u + 40u = 64u = 128

There were in total 128 students in both groups.
