Question

Samuel, Rick and Daniel share $154. 5 times of Samuel’s share is equal to 7 times of Rick’s share. Rick’s share is equal to 6 times of Daniel’s share. How much does Samuel receive?

Answer

If Daniel had $ u, Rick had $ 6u and Samuel had $ 6u* 7/5  = 8.4u

8.4u + 6u + u = 154

15.4u = 154

u = 10

8.4u = 84

Samual had received $84.

I think the tough part is understanding why Samuel had 6u * 7/5 .

I guess I can sort of understand, but will require restudying the problem again 😆

The question a bit confusing, as quoting” …..$154.    5 times of Samuel’s …..”.

The first time I read, I thought it is one sentence ” $154.5 times of Samuel’s….”.

So 5 times of Samuel’s shares equal 7 times of Rick’s share.

Rick’s share was $ 6u. So $ 6u * 7 = 5 * Samuel’s share or

Samuel’s share = $ 6u * 7/5

Oh, I understood your working the first time.  It’s just that the “u” method requires you to choose the right “u” which is the difficult part of the problem.  I’m still struggling in that department 😆
