Question

Betty had 80 beads Cahty had 400 beads and Steven had 570 beads Steven gave Betty some beads he gave Cathy twice as many beads as what he had given to Betty As a result Cathy had 3 times as many beads as Betty. How many beads did Steven have left ?

Answer

If Steven gave Betty u beads, he gave Cathy 2u beads.

Cathy had in the end ( 400 + 2u ) beads and Betty had ( 80 + u ) beads.

Given

3( 80 + u ) = 400 + 2u

240 + 3u = 400 + 2u

u = 160

Steven in the end had 570 – 3u = 570 – 480 = 90 beads.
