We can use a similar diagram:

Rotate the small square in the circle by 45 degrees to get the above diagram.
We deduce that its area must be half of the bigger square because its
sides are cutting the 4 inner squares into equal halves. So it is 32 cm2.

The diameter of the circle is 8 (because 8 x 8 = 64) so radius is 4.

Area of the shaded area
 = Area of circle - area of small square
 = 3.14 x 4 x 4 - 32
 = 18.24 cm2
