Question

Hihi, can any expert here help with this P5 Math question? Model drawing is needed. 🙏

Mrs Ho baked some cookies. She sold 1/5 of her cookies and an additional 8 cookies on Monday. She sold 2/3 of the remaining cookies and an additional  5 cookies on Tuesday. She gave the rest of her 31 cookies to Mrs Lim. How many cookies did Mrs Ho bake at first?

Answer

A good starting point would be she sold 2/3 of the remaining cookies and additional 5 cookies on tuesday. That means

1/3 of the remaining cookies were 5 + 31 = 36 cookies.

The remaining cookies were 3 × 36 = 108 cookies.

108 + 8 = 116 cookies were 4/5 of the total cookies.

So she baked in total 116 × 5 /4 = 145 cookies at first.
