Question

Answer

Area of the bigger square = 64 cm²

Length of the bigger square = √ 64 = 8 cm = diameter of the circle

diagonal length of the smaller square = diameter  of the circle = 8 cm

Area of smaller square can be subdivided into 4 smaller triangles with 2 straight diagonal lines cut across the corners of the squares. The small triangles has base of 4 cm and height of 4 cm

Area of smaller square = 4 × area of small triangles

Shaded area = Area of circle – area of smaller square = 3.14 × 4² – 4 × 4 × 4 /2  = 18.24 cm²
