Question

Answer

Radius of the half circle is 36/2 = 18 cm

Radius of the smaller circles is 18/2 = 9 cm

Shaded area = half circle Area – 2 × Area of smaller circles + 2 × Area of  intersection between smaller circles

Area of Intersection between smaller circles = 2 × (  Area of quarter smaller circle – right angle triangle) = 2 × ( π 9²/4 – 9²/2) = 81 ( π /2 – 1)

Shaded area = π × 18²/2 – 2 ×π 9² + 2 × 81 ( π /2 – 1) = 81π  – 162 cm²

Note: first 2 terms of shaded area cancelled each other, so the area of shaded area simply equal to 2 × area of  intersection between smaller circles. Not sure if the answer is correct.
