Question

Answer

If there are 8u students in the class, 1/4 of the class are 8u/4 =2u who are girls wearing spectacles.

Number of girls in the class are ( 8u –  28).

Given

3( 8u –  28)/5 = 2u                        multiply 5 on both sides

24u – 84 = 10u

14u = 84

u = 6

8u = 8 × 6 = 48

There are 48 students in the class.

I just want to add another perspective.

We proceed from the "3/5 girls wear spectacles" and use 5u to denote the
number of girls. Here is the model diagram:

Since the number of girls is 3u and that is 1/4 of total, that means
total number of pupiles is 12u and so 7u = 28 and u = 4.
We have the same solution total number of pupils is 12 x 4 = 48.
