At first,

20c : $1

3 : 11

In the end,

3 : 9  (1/3 as many 20 cent coins as $1 coins)

Hence, there is a reduction of 2u of $1 coins.

2u = 8

1u = 4

Money in the end -> (12 x $0.20) + (36 x $1) = $38.40

Since the number of 20c coins is 1/3 as many $1 coins after spending 8 $1 coins, from the model above it is clear that each unit is 8/2=4 coins.

So the total money she has at the end is 12x$0.20 + 24x$1 = $26.40
