Question

Hi,

Need help on this question.

Danny and Edmund started jogging at the same time along the route from Point A to Point B. Both did not change their speeds throughout the journey. After 20 min, Edmund was 250m behind Danny. When Danny completed the remaining distance of 6200m, Edmund was 750m from Point B. What is Edmund’s jogging speed in m/min?

Thanks !!

Answer

Relative speed = 250/20 = 12.5 m/sec
That means Danny is faster than Edmund by 12.5 m/sec

Using the same relative speed, Danny increase a further of 500m  gap to 750m. You can look at this way, that Danny has traveled 750m away from Edmund at a relative speed of 12.5 m/s

Time needed to increase the gap to by a further 500m, (750m – 250m) = 500/12.5 = 40 min

This is the same time for Danny to traveled the remaining 6200m
SO Danny’s absolute speed = 6200 / 40 = 155 m/min

Edmund’s speed= 155 – 12.5 = 142.5 m/min ###
