Hi , 

pls help on the below . 

A group of girls shared some sweets among themselves. If each girl took 11 sweets, the last girl would have only 6 sweets. If each girl took 8 sweets, there were 25 sweets left over .

How many girls were there ?

how many sweets were there ?

Answer

The number of sweets can be express with either multiple of 11 or 8.

Let the number of Girls be ‘G’
Number of sweets = 11G – 5
and
Number of sweets = 8G + 25

11G – 5 = 8G + 25
3G = 30
G = 30/3 =10  <-This is the number of girls.

Number of sweets = 8G + 25 or 11G – 5 = 105 ##

Thanks Ender.  For clarity, I feel the first equation should be stated as 11 (G-1) + 6 = 11G – 5
