Answer

LCM = (m2 – 1) = (m+1)(m-1)

mutiply by LCM:

m(m+1) + 1 = 3(m2-1)

m2+m +1 = 3m2 -3

0=2m2 -m -4

(a=2, b=-1, c=-4)

input coefficients into calculator:

m = 1.686 or -1.186 (3 dec place)#

Or m = [-b ± √ (b2 -4ac)]/2a

(#Ender: Thanks for the tips!)

SAHmom, to display “To the power of”  use the Superscript under  the “Format” dropped down menu. e.g. b2

Square root, √ , Under the “Insert” dropped down menu, select special character.

± , the same as above for selecting square root.
