Question

Answer

a) 28 /7 = 4

4 x 4 = 16

4 x 3 = 12

b) difference remains the same

start ratio 4 : 3/ 8 : 6

end ratio 5 : 3

3 units of rope were cut away.

28/ 14 = 2(1u)

2 x 3 = 6

(b)

16m : 12m  ->  8:6  (1 unit -> 2m)

In the end, 5:3

So both sides lost 3 units each.

3 units -> 6m

28 * 4/7 = 16

28 * 3/7 = 12

3 (16 – X) = 5 (12 – X)

48 – 3X = 60 – 5 X

x = 6

(a)

28 / (3 + 4) = 4 cm

Shorter part = 3 * 4 = 12 cm #

Longer part = 4 * 4 = 16 cm #

(b)

Difference between two parts = 16 – 12 = 4 cm

Since a piece of the same length is cut from each part, the difference between the remaining lengths is still 4 cm.

4 / (5 – 3) = 2 cm

Shorter remaining length = 3 * 2 = 6 cm

Length of the piece cut out = 12 – 6 = 6 cm #
