Answer

Susan saves 20% of her salary each month. She found that if her salary were to increase by 10%, her savings would increase by $20. Find Susan’s salary.

salary : savings
10 units : 2 units
11 units (if her salary were to increase by 10%) : 2.2 units

Susan’s salary at first is 100u

She saves (20% x 100u) = 20u

If her salary increases by 10% to (110% x 100u) = 110u

Her savings will increase to 20% x 110u = 22u

22u – 20u = $20

2u = $20

1u = $10

100u = $1000

Susan’s salary is $1000.
