Question

a fruit stall sold mangoes at 90 cents each and apple at 50 cents each. Simon bought some mangoes and John bought some apples from the fruit stall.

Simon spent $3.90 more than John, but had 5 fruits lesser than John. how many mangoes did simon buy?

I had posted similar question earlier and I try to use the method given here but somehow I didn’t get it right.

$3.90 + $2.50 = $6.40

$6.40 ÷ $0.40 = 16 mangoes

Assumption is applied when you are exchanging one apple for one mango but we need to take into consideration that John bought 5 more apples. So we need to add $2.50 to $3.90 then divide by $0.40.
