Question

Answer

Alynna and Christel went shopping together with a total of $750. Alynna spent 1/3 as much as Christel. They saves the rest of their money. Alynna spent $148 less than what she had saved. In the end, she saved twice as much money as Christel. (a) How much money did Alynna spend? (b) How much money did Christel have at first?

Alynna + Christel ——- 750
Alynna spent 1u
Christel spent 3u
Alynna saved ——- 1u + 148
Christel saved ——- (1u + 148)/2
1u + 3u + 1u + 148 + (1u + 148)/2 ——- 750
11u ——- 1500 – 444 = 1056
1u ——- 1056/11 = 96

(b)
3u + (1u + 148)/2 ——- 3 x 96 + (96 + 148)/2 = 410

Ans : (a) $96; (B) $410.
