Question

Miss Lily spent $2500 of her savings on a television. She spent 1/5 of her remaining savings on a necklace. 2/5 of her savings were left. How much savings did she have at first?

Answer

I would solve the question as follows :

1 – (1/5) = 4/5

4/5 of her remaining savings ——- 2/5 of her savings

1 – (2/5) = (3/5)

1/5 of her remaining savings + $2500 ——- 3/5 of her savings

4/5 of her remaining savings + $10000 ——- 12/5 of her savings

2/5 of her savings + $10000 ——–12/5 of her savings

10/5 of her savings ——- $10000

5/5 of her savings ——- $10000/2 = $5000

Ans : $5000
