Question

Answer

Since A appear in both ratio, we make A the same in both ratios.

A : D : E —> 5 : 3 : 4 —-> 15 : 9 : 12

A : B —> 3 : 4 —-> 15 : 20

Since (B + C) is a triangle whose base is the full length of the rectangle,

(B + C) = half of the rectangle

Therefore, (B + C) = (A + D + E)

C = A + D + E – B = 15 + 9 + 12 – 20 = 16

(a) B : C : E —> 20 : 16 : 12 —-> 5 : 4 : 3 (in simplest form)

A -> 15u = 90cm2

1u = 6

Total -> 15u + 20u + 16u + 9u + 12u = 72u

72u = 432 cm2

(a)
areas of
A : D : E : total
5 : 3 : 4 : 12
15u : 9u : 12u : 36u

areas of
A : B : total
3 : 4 : 7
15u : 20u : 35u

areas of :
A + D + E = B + C
36u = 20u + C
C = 36u – 20u = 16u

areas of
B : C : E
20u : 16u : 12u
5 : 4 : 3

(b)
15u ——- 90
1u ——- 90/15 = 6
36u x 2 = 72u ——- 72 x 6 = 432

Ans : (a) 5 : 4 : 3; (b) 432 sq cm.
