Question

Some chairs are arranged in rows of 10 with none left over. When chairs were rearranged in rows of 8, there were 11 more rows and 4 chairs left over. How many chairs are there?

11 x 8 = 88

92/2 = 46 (this is the part I don’t understand)

46 x 10 = 460 #

The 92 chairs are being added to the remaining rows of 8 chairs to form 10-chairs rows.

Number of chairs to be added to each row -> 2

Number of rows -> 92 /2 = 46

rows of 10 ——- 0 left over

rows of 8 ——- 11 more rows + 4 chairs left over

11 more rows + 4 chairs left over ——- (11 x 8) + 4 = 92

10 – 8 = 2 (difference in the number of chairs in each row of 10 and 8)

92/2 = 46 (number of rows of 10)

46 x 10 = 460

or

8 x (46 + 11) + 4 = 460

Ans : 460 chairs
