At a Food Fair, the ratio of adults to the number of children was 1 : 4. Each boy was given 3 buns each, each girl was given 2 buns each while accompanying adult received 1 bun. Given that 496 buns were distributed and that the ratio of the number of boys to the number girls was 1 : 2, how many girls were there at the Food Fair?

boys : girls

1 : 2

4 : 8

adults : children

1 : 4

3 : 12

adults : boys : girls

3u : 4u : 8u

(3u x 1) + (4u x 3) + (8u x 2) = 31u ——- 496

1u ——- 496/31 = 16

8u ——- 16 x 8 = 128

Ans : 128 girls.

In ABC Bookstore, 40% of the books are non-fiction books. 70% of the remainder are fiction books and the rest are Assessment books. There are 30 more fiction books than non-fiction books. After some non-fiction books are sold, 25% of the remaining books are non-fiction books. How many books are left altogether?

100% – 40% = 60%

70% x 60% = 42% (fiction)

60% – 42% = 18% (Assessment)

42% – 40% = 2% ——- 30

1% ——- 30/2 = 15

40% ——- 15 x 40 = 600 (non-fiction)

42% ——- 15 x 42 = 630 (fiction)

18% ——- 15 x 18 = 270 (Assessment)

100% – 25% = 75% ——- 630 + 270 = 900

1% ——- 900/75 = 12

100% ——- 12 x 100 = 1200

or

25% ——- 12 x 25 = 300

600 – 300 = 300 (non- fiction)

300 + 900 = 1200

Ans : 1200
