Question

Answer

James’s savings : 3u + 3u + 3u + 3u + 3u + 3u + 3u + 3u + 3u + 3u = 30u
Dennis’ savings : (3u + 120) + 3u + 120 + 3u + 120 + 3u + 120 = 12u + 480

1 – 5/6 = 1/6
1 – 1/3 = 2/3
(12u + 480)/6 = 2u + 80 ——- 30u x (2/3) – 70 = 20u – 70
20u – 2u = 18u ——- 80 + 70 = 150
12u + 480 ——– 12 x (150/18) + 480 = 580

Ans : $580.

Check

u = 150/18

Dennis -> $580

James -> 30u = 150/18 × 30 = $250

Dennis left 1/6 -> 580 ÷ 6 = $96.67

James left 2/3 -> 2/3 × 250 = $166.67

$166.67 – 96.67 = 70
