Question

Answer

For the cow and duck question, you can look at it as a number of sets problem..

One set consist of 3 duck and one cow, so the number of legs in total is 10 legs per set

How many sets does 400 legs make? = 400/10 = 40 sets.

40 sets will have ,
Cows = 40 X 1 = 40 cows
Ducks = 40 X 3 = 120 ducks
Altogether = 120 + 40 = 160###

Celine earned $525 more than Abbas each month. They each spent $1250 a month and saved the rest. After 11 months, Celine had $8250 in savings. How much did Abbas earn in a year?

Each month
Celine
earned ——- 1u + 525
spent ——- 1250
saved ——- 1u + 525 – 1250 = 1u – 725

Abbas
earned ——- 1u
spent ——- 1250
saved ——- 1u – 1250

11 x (1u – 725) = 11u – 7975 ——- 8250
1u ——- (8250 + 7975)/11 = 1475
1475 x 12 = 17700

Ans : $17700.

There are 3 times as many ducks as cows on a farm. There are 400 legs altogether How many ducks and cows are there altogether?

3u x 2 + 1u x 4 = 10u ——- 400
1u ——- 400/10 = 40 (cows)
3u ——- 40 x 3 = 120 (ducks)

Ans : 120 ducks and 40 cows, totalling 160.

Q16

Remember seeing it before but couldn’t find it….

Ducks → 3u

Cows → u

Legs (ducks) → 3u × 2 = 6u

Legs (cows) → u × 4 = 4u

6u + 4u = 400

10u = 400

u = 40

Number of ducks and cows → 3u + u = 4u = 4 × 40 = 160
