Suggested answers:

E give 4/9 of his money to D, E has 5 parts left.

D give 3/7 of what he had to E, D has 4 units left.

At end, D = E

Working backward:

$11448 / 2 = $5724

At the end, D has $5724 (4 units left).

$5724 / 4 = $ 1431

$1431 x 7 = $10017

Before giving 3/7 to E, D has $10017, E has $1431 (remaining 5 parts).

$1431 / 5 = $286.20

$286.2 x 4 = $1144.80

$10017 – $1144.80 = $$8872.20

At first, David has $8872.20.

David and Eddy had $11448 at first. Eddy gave 4/9 of his money to David. Then David gave 3/7 of what he had to Eddy. In the end, both of them had the same amount of money. How much did David have at first?

Working backwards,
11448/2 = 5724 (amount both had at the end)
1 – (3/7) = 4/7 ——- 5724
1/7 ——- 5724/4 = 1431 (amount Eddy had before David gave him 3/7)
1 – (4/9) = 5/9 ——- 1431
1/9 ——- 1431/5 = 286.20
9/9 ——- 9 x 286.20 = 2575.80 (amount Eddy had at first)
11448 – 2575.80 = 8872.20

Ans : $8872.20
