Question

3 girls A, B & C had the same number of coins. A & B each had a mix of fifty cents coins and 10 cents coins. A had 9 ten cents coins while B had 15 ten cents coins. C had only fifty cents coins.

B used all her fifty cent coins to buy some food. she then had $10 less in coins than C. How many fifty-cent coins did C have?

pls kindly explain. thank u.

Answer

After B had used all her 50¢ coins, she had only 15 10¢ coins left for a total amount of $1.50

It was given that B now had $10 less than C.

Therefore, C had $10 + $1.50 = $11.50

Since C had all 50¢ coins, number of coins C had was $11.50 ÷ 0.50 = 23

0.10 x 15 = 1.50
1.50 + 10 = 11.50 (amount Cindy had)
11.50 /0.50 = 23 (number of coins Cindy had)

Ans : 23 coins.
