each square had an area of 400cm2. what was the maximum number of squares she had cut?

Answer

1 metre = 1 × 100 = 100 cm

y metres = y × 100 = 100y cm

Area of square = 400 cm²

Side of square = √400 = 20 cm

y metres = 100y cm

100y ÷ 20 = 5y

2 metres = 200 cm

200 ÷ 20 = 10

Maximum number of squares -> 5y × 10 = 50y

May I know why Y metre is = to 100y cm?
