 # Question

After :
Joy – (3/4) Joy = (1/4) Joy
Peter – (1/3) Peter = (2/3) Peter
Bala – (2/5) Bala = (3/5) Bala

Joy : 6u + 6u + 6u + 6u = 24u
Peter : 6u + 3u = 9u
Bala : 6u + 4u = 10u

24u ——- 9u + 10u + 260 = 19u + 360
1u ——– 360/(24 – 19) = 72
6u ——- 432

Ans : 432.

Working backwards:

 Joy Peter Bala Left in the end 1 – (3/4) = 1/4 1 – (2/3) = 2/3 1 –(2/5) = 3/5 Ensure all numerators are the same! At first 6/24 6/9 6/10

10u + 9u = 19u (Total savings of Peter and Bala at first)

24u – 19u = 5u (Joy saved more than total of Peter’s and Bala’s savings)

5u = \$360

1u = \$360 ÷ 5

= \$72

Bala’s savings at first = 10u

= 10 x \$72

= \$720

3/5  x \$720 = \$432 (Ans)

Check: 10u = \$720, 9u = \$648, 24u = \$1728

\$1728 – \$720 – \$648 = \$360 more

Joy had 1 unit (out of 4 unit) left.

Peter had 2 unit (out of 3 unit) left.

Bala had 3 unit (out of 5 unit) left.

If they had the same amount, Joy, Peter and Bala had 6 units in the end.

Joy had 24 unit at first.

Peter had 9 unit at first.

Bala had 10 unit at first.

24 – 9 – 10 = 5

5 unit –> 360

1 unit –> 72

Bala left with 3 unit –> 216

Joy had 1 unit (out of 4 unit) left.      Joy had 6 unit (out of 24 unit) left.

Peter had 2 unit (out of 3 unit) left.  Peter had 6 unit (out of 9 unit) left.

Bala had 3 unit (out of 5 unit) left.   Bala had 6 unit (out of 10 unit) left.

24 – 9 – 10 = 5

5 unit –> 360

1 unit –> 72

Bala left with 3 unit –> 216
