Question
Answer
Method 1 :
At first —
apples : oranges
2 : 5
24u : 60u
24u – (3/4) x 24u = 6u
In the end —
apples : oranges
3 : 5
6u : 10u
60u – 75 ——- 10u
1u ——- 75/(60 – 10) = 1.5
60u – 24u = 36u ——- 36 x 1.5 = 54
Method 2 :
At first —
apples : oranges
2 : 5
4u : 10u
In the end —
apples :
4u – 3u = 1u ——- 3p
5u ——- 15p
oranges :
10u – 75 ——- 5p
30u – 225 ——- 15p
30u – 225 ——- 5u
1u ——- 225/(30 – 5) = 9
10u – 4u = 6u ——- 6 x 9 = 54
Ans : 54.
Thanks. Ur explanation very clear
You are most welcome.
Apples | Oranges | |
At first 2:5 = 4:10 | 4u | 10u |
Gave | 3/4 × 4u = 3u | 75 |
Left | 1u | 10u – 75 |
3p | 5p |
1u = 3p
10u – 75 = 5p
10(3p) – 75 = 5p
30p – 75 = 5p
25p = 75
p = 3
1u = 3p = 9
Difference at first -> 10u – 4u = 6u = 54
Check
u = 9
At first
Apples -> 4u = 36
Oranges -> 10u = 90
In the end
Apples -> ¼ × 36 = 9
Oranges -> 90 – 75 = 15
9 : 15 = 3 : 5
Checked
Ans: 36

At first: 2 : 5
3/4 of apples and 75 oranges given away,
Later: 3 : 5
Convert the ratios such that no. of units of apples (left) is 1/4 of what is at first.
2 x 1/4 = 1/2 unit left.
So tweak the final ratio, instead of 3 :5, it will become 1/2 : 5/6
No. of units of oranges given away = 5 – 5/6 = 25/6
25/6 unit of oranges = 75
1/6 unit of oranges = 3
5 units of oranges (number of oranges at first) = 3 x 6 x 5 = 90
Apples at first = 90/5 *3 = 54
Difference in apples and oranges at first = 90 – 54 = 36
Sorry. I dun know what u r trying to say. Please explain in simpler terms.
