Number of cupcakes baked on first 5 days by Tina = 5 x 136

= 680

Total gap = 680 + 508

= 1188

Diff = 180 – 136

= 44

? Days Jen baked = 1188/44

= 27

? Total cupcakes baked by Tina = 680 + (27×136) = 4352

136 x 5 = 680 (Tina’s head-start)
180 – 136 = 44 (Jen baked more than Tina each day)
680 + 508 = 1188
1188/44 = 27 (days)
(5 + 27) x 136 = 4352

Ans : 4352 cupcakes.

At Day 5 :

Total no of cupcakes Tina baked = 5 x 136 = 680

From Day 6 onwards :

Excess no of cupcakes Jen baked MORE THAN Tina per day = 180-136 = 44

Length of time Jen will take to equalise the number of cupcakes Tina baked = 680/44 days

After equalising, further length of time Jen will take to exceed Tina by 508 cupcakes = 508/44 days

Total time taken = 5 + 680/44 + 508/44 = 32 days

No of cupcakes Tina baked in 32 days = 32 x 136 = 4352
