Class A            Class B

At first        4u                      u

+480 |                       | +320

In the end    3p                    p

4u = 3p  – 480

u = p – 320

4u = 4(p –  320)

= 4p –  1280

4p – 1280 = 3p – 480

4p-3p = 1280-480

p = 800

4p = 4 × 800

= 3200

4u + 480 ——- 3p
1u + 320 ——- 1p
4u + 1280 ——- 4p
1p ——- 800
3p + 1p = 4p ——- 3200

Ans : \$3200.

 Class A Class B 1st campaign 4 units 1 unit 2nd campaign + \$480 + \$320 In the end 4 units + \$480 (3 units) 1 unit + \$320 (1 unit)

To make the amount collected by Class B the same as Class A, we do the following step:

(1 unit + \$320) x 3 = 3 units + \$960

4 units + \$480 = 3 units + \$960

4 units – 3 units = \$960 – \$480

1 unit = \$480

Amount collected by each class in the end

(Class A)

4 units + \$480

= (4 x \$480) + \$480

= \$1920 + \$480

= \$2400

(Class B)

1 unit + \$320

= \$480 + \$320

= \$800

Total amount of money raised = \$2400 + \$800

= \$3200 (Ans)
