Question

The figure below  shows a rectangle A of lenght 16 cm and breadth 10 cm .The length of the rectangle is increased by 50% and its breadth is increased by 20% to form a new rectangle.what is the percentage increase in its area?

Answer

Original area = 16 × 10 = 160

New L = 1.5 × 16 = 24

New B = 1.2 × 10 = 12

New area = 24×12 =288

% increase in area = (288-160)/160 × 100%

                                    = 80% (ans)
