Question

Daniel found 3 pieces of ropes in the storeroom. Rope A was 20 cm long.
Rope C was as long as Rope A plus half the length of Rope B.
Rope B was as long as Rope A and Rope C together.

(a) What is the length of Rope B?
(b) find the total length of the 3 pieces of ropes.

Answer

C –> A + 1/2 B

2C –> 2A + B

B –> A + C

2C –> 2A + A + C

A –> 20 cm

C –> 3A

    = 3 × 20 cm

    = 60 cm

a) Length of B = A + C

                          = 20 cm + 60 cm

                          = 80 cm (ans)

b) Total length of 3 ropes

      = (20 + 80 + 60)cm

      = 160 cm (ans)
