C   :     J

4u   :    3u  (since 1/4 of C =1/3 of J)

-150 |         |+80

2p   :    5p

4u – 150 = 2p

3u + 80 = 5p

20u – 750 = 10p

6u + 160 = 10p

14u – 910 = 0

14u = 910

1u = 910÷14

= 65

a) C at first = 4u

=4 × \$65

=\$260 (ans)

b) J in the end = 3u + \$80

= 3 × \$65 + \$80

= \$275 (ans)

As it was stated that in the end, June had 21/2 times as much money as Charles, convert 21/2 into improper fraction. So, june had 5/2 as much money aa Charles. June 5 parts and Charles 2 parts in the end.

1.
At first —
Charles’ money : 4 units
June “s money : 3 units
Then —
(4 units – 150) x 2.5 = 10 units – 375 = 3 units + 80
1 unit = (80 + 375)/(10 – 3) = 65
4 units = 260

2.
3 units + 80 = 3 x 65 + 80 = 275

Ans : 1. \$260; 2. \$275.
