Hi,

Can someone help on this question?

Thanks

  1. Jean and May had a total of 110 stamps at first. After May received 15 stamps from Jean, she had 22 fewer stamps than Jean. How many stamps did May have at first?

Answer

110 – 22 = 88
88/2 = 44 (May in the end)
44 – 15 = 29 (May at first)

Ans : 29 stamps.

Hi Bunny27!

This question can be solved by first drawing a model.

First, we want to make Jean & May have the same number of stamps.

110-22 =88

Then, we find out how many stamps each have.

88 ÷ 2 = 44

Lastly, we take away the 15 stamps that were given to May at the start.

44 -15 = 29

So, we know that May had 29 stamps at first :)!

Hi,

44-15=29

How come May have 34 at first ? So, the at first should be 29 or 34 ?

Thanks

            J  :  M

            ?  :  ?

       -15|     |+15

       u +22   u

J at first  -> u + 22 + 15

                 = u + 37

M at first -> u – 15

u + 37 + u – 15 = 110

2u + 22 = 110

2u = 110 – 22

     = 88

1u = 44

May at first = u – 15

                      = 44 – 15

                       = 29 (ans)
