Question

A tree was planted at an interval of 7m at one side of the street. On the other side of the street, a shrub was planted at every 4m. There are 36more shrubs than trees. How Long is the street if there is one tree and one shrub at the end of each street?

Answer

By grouping method:

Common multiple of 4 and 7 is 28

In 1 group of 28m –> 4 trees and 7 shrubs

                                 –> 3 more shrubs

? Groups –> 36 ÷ 3

                 = 12

Distance of street = 12 × 28m

                                 = 336 m (ans)

7 x 4 = 28
28/7 = 4 (trees for every 28 m excluding the 1st tree)
28/4 = 7 (shrubs for every 28 m excluding the 1st shrub)
7 – 4 = 3 (more shrubs for every 28 m)
36/3 = 12
12 x 28 = 336

Ans : 336 m.
