Question

Bakery A had 78 more cupcakes than Bakery B at firsr. Bakery A sold 1/6 of their cupcakes while Bakery B sold 1/4 of their cupcakes. After that Bakery A had 90 more cupcakes than Bakery B. How many cupcakes did Bakery A have at first ?

Answer

LCM of 6 and 4 is 12.
At first —
Bakery A : 12 units + 78
Bakery B : 12 units

After :
Bakery A : (12 units + 78) x [1 – (1/6)] = 10 units + 65
Bakery B : 12 units x [1 – (1/4)] = 9 units
10 units + 65 – 9 units = 90
1 unit = 90 – 65 = 25
12 units + 78 = 12 x 25 + 78 = 378

Ans : 378 cupcakes.

This is a simultaneous equation.

    R1       R2   R1 x 3  R2 x 4 R2 – R1
A 6 5  18  20  2
B -4 -3  -12  -12  0
Amount  78 90  234  360  126

2u = 126

1u = 126 ÷ 2 = 63

6u = 63 × 6 = 378
