Question

When Amy spent 50% of her money and Belle spent 25% of hers, the ratio of the amounts they had became 3:2. Amy then bought a bag for $81. After that, she had 20% more money than Belle. How much more money than Belle did Amy have at first?

Answer

Amy : 18 units – (50% x 18 units) = 9 units
Belle : 8 units – (25% x 8 units) = 6 units

9 units – 81 = 1.2 x 6 units
1 unit = 81/(9 – 7.2) = 45
18 units – 8 units = 10 units = 10 x 45 = 450

Ans : $450 more.

This is a Before After  question.

LCM (LEFT)

A    1/2 = 3/6 = 9/18

B     3/4 = 6/8

   Before  transfer  After  transfer  After   Ratio

Amy

18u 9u 9u -81 9u – 81 6
Belle 8u 2u 6u  o  6u 5

(9u – 81) /6 = 6u / 5

45u – 405 = 36u

45u – 36u = 405

9u = 405

1u = 405 ÷ 9 = 45

18u – 8u = 10u

10u = 10 × 45 = $450 more
