A group of prefects was split into 3 each groups for morning duty- Group A, B and C. The number of boys in Group A is equal to the number of girls in Group B. There were more girls than boys in Group B. 1/5 of the boys were in Group C. If there were 16 more girls than boys  how many girls were there in total?

Answer

This is a Matrix question.

Assumption : All groups are of equal.

1 is only a number. You may use other numbers.

   Boy  girl    total
A 2u +1 2u -1 4u
B 2u – 1 2u +1 4u
C 1u 1u + 16 2u + 16
Total  5u 5u + 16

4u = 2u + 16

4u – 2u = 16

2u = 16

1u = 16 ÷ 2 = 8

5u = 5 × 8 =40

40 +16 = 56
