Answer

This is a Before After question.

    Before  Transfer  After
Carnation  2u – 65 2u – 65
Rose 1u – 10 1u – 10

(2u – 65) / 1 = (1u – 10) / 3

6u – 195 = 1u – 10

6u – 1u = 195 – 10

5u = 185

1u = 185 ÷ 5 = 37 roses

NOTE

There is a question error.

The roses left is 3 times the carnation left.

1. 2/3 of the number of papayas in a fruit shop was equal to 1/5 of the number of apples at the shop. If there were 416 papayas and apples, find the number of papayas at the shop.

papayas : 1 unit + 1 unit + 1 unit = 3 units
apples : 2 unit + 2 unit + 2 units + 2 units + 2 units = 10 units

3 + 10 = 13
416/13 = 32
32 x 3 = 96

Ans : 96 papayas.

2. After using 1/12 of its charcoal, a food stall bought another 12kg of charcoal. As a result, the food stall now has 7/6 as much charcoal as what it had at first. How many kilograms of charcoal did the food stall have at first.

12 units ——- 12/12 (kilograms of charcoal at first)
11 units + 12 ——- 11/12 + 12 ——- 7/6 = 14/12
3/12 ——- 12
12/12 ——- 48

Ans : 48 kg.

3. Rita, Ann and Susan went shopping together. Rita spent 5/9 of her money. Ann spent 2/3 of hers and Susan spent $7. They all had an equal amount of money left. If the total sum of their money left was $96, what was the total amount of money the three children had at first?

Rita : 4 units + 5 units = 9 units
Ann : 4 units + 8 units = 12 units
Susam : 4 units + 7

96/3 = 32
32/4 = 8
(9 + 12 + 4) x 8 + 7 = 207

Ans : $207.

Question 3

This is a Part Whole question.

LCM (LEFT)

4/9

1/3 = 4/12

    Spend  left  total
Rita  5u 4u     9u
Ann  8u 4u 12u
Susan  7 4u 4u + 7
Total   12u 25u + 7

12u  = 96

1u = 96 ÷ 12 = 8

25u = 25 × 8 = 200

200 + 7 = $207

Question 2

This is a before after question.

LCM

1/12

   Before  transfer   After
  12u – 1u + 12 11u + 12

12u/6   = (11u + 12)/ 7

84u = 66u + 72

84u – 66u = 72

18u = 72

6u = 72 ÷ 3 = 24

12u = 24 × 2 = 48 kg
