(a)
(1/3) x (1 – 1/5) = 4/15

(b)
1/5 = 3/15
3/15 of his money ——- 5 mechanical pencils + 12 highlighters
3/15 of his money ——- 5 + 4 = 9 mechanical pencils
4/15 of his money ——- (9/3) x 4 = 12
12 + 5 = 17

Ans : (a) 4/15; (b) 17 mechanical pencils.

This is a Branching question.

  Buy 1 Buy 2 Left Total
Buy 1 1u 4u 5u
Buy 2   1 2 3
CR 3u 4u 8u 15u
Pen 5
Highlighter 12

a)

4/15

b)

3 Highlighter = 1 pen

12 Highlighter = 4 pen

3u = 5 + 4 = 9 pen

1u = 9 ÷ 3 = 3 pen

4u = 4 x 3 = 12 pens
