Question

Hi pls help me with this question. Thks

15 x 5 units = 75 units (boys at first)
10 x 5 units = 50 units (girls at first)
75 + 50 = 125 units (total at first)
(4/5) x 75 = 60 units (total boys gave to girls)
75 – 60 = 15 units (boys in the end)
15/15 = 1 unit (each boy in the end)
60 + 50 = 110 units (girls in the end)
110/10 = 11 (each girl in the end)
11 – 1 = 10 units = 10
125 units = 125

Ans : 125 stickers.

If we let each boy or girl have 5u of stickers, when each boy gave away 4/5 of his stickers, means 15 boys gave away 60u of stickers to the 10 girls and so, when distributed evenly among the girls, each girl gets 6u more (than the original 5u she has).

Now each girl has 11u versus each boy has 1u.

So 10u is 10 stickers.

At first, 25 children x 5u = 75 stickers #

(I leave the mathematical equations or model drawing to you)

Hi ,Thks for the solution. However, can I ask why we can’t use 60 units = 100 stickers since we know that the total additional stickers received by each girl is 10 so 10×10 = 100 stickers. Thks!

Hi Peacemaker,

To rephrase, the question means “because of this redistribution, we compare the stickers each girl and each boy after and the difference is 10”.

For the working you asked, it is as if question says “as a result, each girl received 10 more stickers than each boy“.  There is no comparison against the lesser sticker each boy has now.

Hope this explanation with model clarify.

Hi SAHmom,

thank you you very much for your detailed explanation , I understand now. Thks!
