 Hi anyone

Please help with the following questions:

1) Zara had 70 more dresses than skirts. She sold 3/4 of the dresses and 3/5 of the skirts. She sold 126 more dresses than skirts. What fraction of the remaining clothes that Zara had were skirts?

Answer

Let Dresses = 20d, skirts = 20s

20d – 20s = 70—–> (1)

3/4 of Dresses = 15d; remaining = 5d
3/5 of skirts = 12s; remaining = 8s

15d – 12s = 126——> (2)

required fraction = 8s/(5d+8s)

from (1) an (2), we get

4d -4s = 14
5d – 4s = 42
so,
d = 42 – 14 = 28————> 5d = 140
4s = 4d -14 = 112 – 14 = 98—-> 8s = 196

8s/(5d+8s) = 196/(140+196) = 196/336 = 49/84
