Hamid ate 1/6 of a cake and gave away 3/5 of the remainder. What fraction of the cake was left ?
Can you pl. explain with steps ?
1 – 1/6 = 5/6 (remainder/cake left after Hamid ate 1/6 of it)
(3/5) x (5/6) = 1/2 (3/5 of the remainder that Hamid gave away = 1/2 of the whole cake)
(5/6) – (1/2) = (5 – 3)/6 = 2/6 = 1/3
Ans : 1/3.
