Firstly, there is too much information given.  Instead of :”After 44 days, he had spent $74.70 on the GaME cards and had 722 cards”, it is sufficient to have either

“After 44 days, he had spent $74.70 on the GaME cards.” or

“After 44 days, he bought a total of 722 GaME cards.”

 

a)  44 ÷ 7 = 6R2

In 44 days starting from Monday, there are 6 Sundays.

So, amount spent for Black cards = 6 x $1.00 = $6.00

Total amount spent on Red and Blue cards = $74.70 – $6.00 = $68.70

 

b) Number of weekdays in 44 days starting from Monday = 44 – 6 = 38

Total number of Red and Blue packs bought = 38 x 3 = 114

Using assumption/supposition method:

If all are Red packs, total amount spent on Red packs = 114 x $0.40 = $45.60

Number of Blue packs bought = ($68.70 – $45.60)/($0.70-$0.40) = 77
