Question

.A tin of paint weighed 5 kg when it was 1/2 full,and weighed 4 kg when it was 1/3 full What was the weight of the tin of paint when it was completely full?

Answer

1 empty tin + 1/2 full ——-> 5 kg
2 empty tins + 2/2 full ——-> 10 kg
1 empty tin + 1/3 full ——-> 4 kg
3 empty tins + 3/3 ful ——-> 12 kg
1 empty tin ——-> 2 kg
5 – 2 = 3
3 x 2 + 2 = 8

Ans : 8 kg

This is a Simultaneous Equation question.

LCM

1/2 = 3/6

1/3 = 2/6

   Tin   Paint Weight    
R1 3u 5  
R2 1 2u 4  

3u -2u = 5 – 4

1u = 1

2u = 2

1 tin = 4 – 2 = 2

5u = 5

Total = 2 + 5 = 7 kg
